“With ale, we fear no evil;
With whisky, we’ll face the devil!”
The water of life
Once known as usquebaugh (the water of life), whisky is, in all senses, the spirit of Scotland – earthy, complex, warming, robust, romantic. A taste of the land, of barley, peat and burn water that the alchemy of the master distiller turns into something delicious and mysterious.
Each swirl and sip can take you on a journey somewhere in Scotland without leaving your seat. No wonder Burns said whisky and freedom go together.
If you're craving a dram
Whisky, then, is a big deal for us and, when we're not out hunting stag, we're probably hunting down rare, legendary and exceptional whiskies, like the Balvenie 18 aged in Pedro Ximenez casks or the sought-after Springbank 18 or the Bladnoch 22.
And that's far from all - if you're looking to explore the mighty Arran malts or something that captures the character of the Ayrshire and Arran coastline or Lochlea from the very farmland that Burns called home, you need look no further than the shelves behind the bar. Suffice it to say, if you're craving a dram, we've got what you want. Whether it's just a simple warming single shot or a splurge on some of the wonders whisky has to offer, this is the place.
'In the end, it is not the years in your life that count, but the life in your years.'
— Robert the BruceStories from Scotland's last great wilderness, where stags stand proud on hillsides and salmon shimmer in the burns.
Tales of the land that inspires us, the artisans who shape it, and the adventures that await in this playground of legends.
